Three inspiring Northland teenagers have received a significant step up on their journey to study at university, through WRMK Lawyers Scholarship programme.
Kamo Head Girl Paige Cleaver and KeriKeri High School Prefect Tessa Boagers have been named as the winners of WRMK Lawyers’ 2024 Law Scholarships.
Okaihau College student Rangimarie Croft also received a one-off WRMK Lawyers Prize towards her university studies.
WRMK Lawyers Law Scholarships support aspiring law students who have demonstrated academic ability and leadership, but are facing significant financial need or have life circumstances that present barriers to studying at university. Paige and Tessa will benefit from a $10,000 cash contribution, guaranteed paid work experience after their second year of study, and a mentor from WRMK.
“We were delighted with this year’s response to our annual call for Scholarship applications, from a number of very deserving applicants, resulting in a difficult choice for us! Paige, Tessa and Rangimarie’s drive to succeed and their involvement in the community stood out to us. The objective of our scholarship is to help remove barriers to study for students with real potential. We are delighted to be able to help support these inspiring young people through their studies,” says WRMK Managing Director Rebecca Merry.
“I am beyond excited to begin my journey of learning the law. From a young age I have been interested and curious in how the law connects us as a society. To have the support of a community as encouraging as WRMK means the world to me. I am extremely grateful and look forward to becoming involved with the WRMK firm whilst growing and learning throughout this process,” says Tessa.
“I’m excited to begin my journey into law and business, as I am passionate about supporting businesses that strengthen our community, while ensuring fairness and integrity in the process. This commitment drives my goal of becoming a lawyer. This opportunity provided by WRMK will be invaluable in helping me transition smoothly into university and, ultimately, in applying my knowledge to shape Northland’s future. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it”, and I am determined to do just that,” says Paige.
WRMK’s scholarship programme is now in its fourth year, and forms part of WRMK’s Community Strategy. Paige and Tessa now bring the total number of WMRK Scholars to seven.
