GIVING BACK TO THE PLACES WE LIVE AND WORK

Being an active part of our community is an integral part of WRMK’s culture. As a significant employer in the North, giving back to our community not only contributes to the firm’s business goals, but it is the right thing to do. There are several types of activity that make up WRMK’s contribution back to the community, including group fundraising, donations, pro bono work and volunteering. We have three main areas of focus for the support we give in the community:

Supporting families fighting cancer

Our team, their whanau and friends have all been touched by cancer in some way. WRMK is passionate about supporting families going through the fight against cancer.

We have a strong relationship with the Northland Cancer Society including donating $10,000 to the NCS Hardship Fund over the last two years which helps families in a very practical way with transport to and accommodation, and raising over $18,000 over the last two years through Daffodil Day and Relay for Life.

Youth and education

WRMK’s law scholarship programme supports aspiring law students who have demonstrated academic ability and leadership, but are facing significant financial need or have life circumstances that present barriers to studying at university.

Each year one or two Northland students each year benefit from a $10,000 contribution towards their studies, a WRMK mentor and paid work experience after their second year of studies.

Local communities

We also support a range of smaller community activities nominated by our staff, through donations or pro bono legal work.

Our staff community fund helps to help us give back locally and be present in the various regions where we work, such as: the Kowhai Singers choir in Warkworth, the Dargaville Primary School Junior Nature Playground, the Kerikeri Cricket Club, Whangarei Netball Association, Whangarei Sunrise Rotary, Parua Bay Community Society, Parkinson Society Northland, Whangarei Junior Rugby and others.
Our thanks to Jan Bellamy for our Relay for Life 2021 photos.
