Whangarei Girls High School student Anna Jungwin has been named as the winner of the WRMK Lawyers 2023 Law Scholarship.
The Law Scholarship is to support an aspiring law student who has demonstrated academic ability and leadership, but is facing significant financial need or has life circumstances that present barriers to studying at university. Anna will benefit from a $10,000 cash contribution, guaranteed paid work experience after her second year of study, and a mentor from WRMK.
“We have once again had an excellent response to our annual call for Scholarship applications. Anna’s drive to succeed and her involvement in the community stood out. The objective of our scholarship is to help remove barriers to study for students with real potential. We are delighted to be able to help support Anna through her studies,” says WRMK Managing Director Wayne McKean.
Anna will begin studying a law and arts conjoint degree at the University of Auckland in 2024. While at school, Anna was also the chairperson of the Whangarei District Council’s Youth Advisory Group for three years, an attendee at the Festival for a Future leadership programme in Wellington, and a volunteer for a I Have a Dream.
“I’m beyond relieved and grateful to have been awarded this scholarship, which will ease the financial burden that comes with pursuing higher education. I am the first in my family to attend university so the mentorship I am receiving is also incredibly valuable to me. I used to worry my situation could impede my access to higher education but this generosity of WRMK is proof that your roots don’t determine your success as much as your drive and passion for your future. As someone born and raised in Northland, I’m very thankful for and proud of our community’s dedicated efforts to ensure our local rangatahi have access to many life-changing opportunities,” says Anna.
WRMK’s scholarship programme is now in its third year, and forms part of WRMK’s Community Strategy, of which two main areas of focus are youth and education, and helping families fighting cancer. Anna is the fifth recipient of a WMRK Scholarship.
