Barbara has a strong business practice, including advising on asset sales and purchases, business contracts, intellectual property, company share transactions and business growth structuring.
She also has commercial property expertise and advises individual and corporate clients on subdivisions and leasing, resource management issues, as well as attending to issues at the intersection of companies and trusts.
A dual US-NZ citizen, Barbara studied and practiced law in the US (Hawaii and North Carolina) for over 15 years before moving to New Zealand in 1997. She joined a predecessor WRMK firm (Urlich McNab Kilpatrick) in 2002.

Outside of work, Barbara enjoys hiking and travelling.
RECENT EXPERIENCE
- Assisting a local business establish a franchise system as its business growth model.
- Advising on the restructuring of company shareholding to facilitate an employee share scheme.
- As part of a trademark application process, drafting and negotiating a Co-Existence Agreement with a competing TM owner.
- Providing the legal support for a developer in implementing a staged commercial subdivision, including issues of zoning, reverse sensitivity, seabed management, leasehold and local authority freehold interests.
